Google conducted a webinar on June 14, 2011. The event was hosted by Amit Singhal, head of Google’s core ranking team. Other experts also helped us understand better what the search engine giant has been up to lately. Here are the highlights:

Search is about breaking barriers to knowledge. Quest for knowledge is eternal. Desktop search data does not depict this. However, the mobile explosion has proved this. Mobile searches actually increases during the weekend, lunch hour and in the evenings! Unlike desktop searches, with mobile searches there is no summer slump or Christmas break. Mobile searches are outperforming desktop searches. While Google has been obsessed with speed, simplicity has become extremely important for mobile phone searches. Google is continuously customizing its search engine for mobile devices.

    Is it a netbook? NO…
    Is it a smartphone? NO…
    It’s an iPad!

    Astounding? NO…
    Amazing? NO…
    It’s simply… unbelievable!

So much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable than a smartphone,” Steve Jobs said at Apple’s biggest product launch since the iPhone three years ago.

Why iPad Will Become An iFad

So, the day is finally here! In less than an hour, Apple will unveil its tablet computer to the world. Apple has managed to take the world by storm time and again. Will we see another earthmoving app, which people “just have to have”?

    Apple Tablet: The Middle Path?

With Apple guarding the secret well so far, speculations are rampant. The blogosphere is abuzz with speculations of the device being something between the iPhone and the 13-inch MacBook. Most tech savvy folks expect this device to feature the iPhone OS, have a seven-to-ten-inch screen (of course, that would have to be a touchscreen), have a 3G connection and have the capability of displaying a gamut of media content, including magazines, newspapers and videos.

    Bing Search Engine

With the launch of Bing earlier this month, Internet marketers have something new to work on. Going by the basic scheme of things, let me keep this blog post extremely simple.

    What is Bing?

Bing represents Microsoft’s quest to beat Google in the search engine war. The company is advertising Bing as a “decision engine” and aims at keeping searches simple and organized. It attempts to help people deal with information overload and make decisions faster and with greater ease.

    Tweety… On the Go

    Tweety… On the Go

Information technology has been the underlying cause of business transformation for the past couple of decades. In the last couple of years, it has changed the way organizations communicate with their target audience. The cheap availability and wide reach of the Internet has got companies to reconsider their online presence and to use it for relationship building. From emails to social networking sites and the use of multimedia, the Internet has become a strategic tool for brand building. The latest networking tool being used by companies is Twitter.

    What is Twitter?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet,”
    - Juliet says distressed because Romeo’s name (symbolizing the family he belongs to) does not allow them to be lovers.

This is not about Theatre although it is rather Theatrical
With all due respect to Shakespeare, I just have to disagree. There is, in fact, a lot in a name. Why else would I go to a restaurant and ask for Coke instead of just any cola? Why would I automatically walk into a Levis showroom, knowing that I would get a pair of jeans that was sure to fit beautifully? When my aunt gifts me a Tommy Girl, why do I know I will love the fragrance before I even open the bottle? When my husband surprises me with Swarovski earrings, how am I so sure that they would sparkle for years? Apparently, there is a lot in a name.

The very purpose of having a web presence has changed drastically over the past decade. From being a mere extension of the promotional strategy of a business, a web presence has blossomed into becoming the core promotional methodology for enhancing brand recognition and promoting sales. IAB Europe President Alain Heureux said in a statement in June 2008, “Despite a slowdown in ad spend on some traditional media, the rise of online advertising in Europe continues unabated.” The growing importance of the Internet is also revealed by the survey conducted by Nielsen Monitor-Plus in the US market. The survey reflects that while US advertising spending was up merely 0.6% in 2007, Internet ad spending grew 18.9%.

Why Formulate a Content Development Strategy?

Most people are attracted to the Internet as a source of information. This information is mainly available in the form of content. Content has the power to:

    When I’m watchin’ my TV
And that man comes on to tell me
How white my shirts can be…
    I can’t get no satisfaction.

    (Satisfaction – Rolling Stones)

Your customers are probably as fed up of interruption marketing as Mick Jagger sounded in that song! More than a decade back people were still willing to be innocent victims of repeated television and radio commercials. However, people today have low tolerance than ever for advertising and promotion messages that are unanticipated and mostly irrelevant. In fact, I am guilty of that as well… after all I did mute the TV whenever the match between Manchester United and Liverpool was interrupted by someone recommending the longest lasting batteries or sneakers that can breathe. “Stop interrupting me!” - Be sure that most of your customers are saying that today.

So, how do you get your message across? The two basic rules that work today are:
