I think this is the right time to take Swine Flu seriously and fight it hard before it conquers our world. According to the authorities, one third of the population will be infected with Swine Flu Virus in next 2 years. All of us must have got dozens of mails regarding Swine Flu but many of us might not have taken it seriously. Remember, if we get infected with this virus then we will be like an Atom Bomb for the people near by us. Let’s make sure that we follow the points listed below to ensure that we are safe, healthy, happy and delightful:

  1. Wash your hands frequently: Use the antibacterial soaps to cleanse your hands. Wash them often, at least 15 seconds and rinse with running water.
  2. Get enough sleep:Try to get 8 hours of good sleep every night to keep your immune system in top flu-fighting shape.
  3. Keep hydrated: Drink 8 to10 glasses of water each day to flush toxins from your system and maintain good moisture and mucous production in your sinuses.
  4. Boost your immune system: Keeping your body strong, nourished, and ready to fight infection is important in flu prevention. So stick with whole grains, colorful vegetables, and vitamin-rich fruits.
  5. Keep informed: The government is taking necessary steps to prevent the pandemic and periodically release guidelines to keep the pandemic away. Please make sure to keep up to date on the information and act in a calm manner.
  6. Avoid alcohol: Apart from being a mood depressant, alcohol is an immune suppressant that can actually decrease your resistance to viral infections like swine flu. So stay away from alcoholic drinks so that your immune system may be strong.
  7. Be physically active: Moderate exercise can support the immune system by increasing circulation and oxygenating the body. For example brisk walking for 30-40 minutes 3-4 times a week will significantly perk up your immunity.
  8. Keep away from sick people: Flu virus spreads when particles dispersed into the air through a cough or sneeze reachs someone else’s nose. So if you have to be around someone who is sick, try to stay a few feet away from them and especially, avoid physical contact.
  9. Know when to get help: Consult your doctor if you have a cough and fever and follow their instructions, including taking medicine as prescribed.
  10. Avoid crowded areas: Try to avoid unnecessary trips outside. Moreover, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  11. Eat Herbs: Eat clove, tulsi leaves, raw garlic flake daily.

We all want a Healthy World.

Migraine being a ubiquitous disease has become the talk of the world. Although it’s not a fatal disorder but there’s always a thump-thump of heart during dreadful onset of Migraine and one can’t put up with his pain.

As we know ‘longer the pain been establish the harder it is to abolish’ so, before migraine becomes writing of your wall its better to cease it there.

By virtue of paying more attention to work people deprive themselves from a proper recreation excessive hours, which causes physical stress such as prolonged exertion especially when it’s combined with muscle bending and scooping. Physical stress caused by lack of sleep and emotional stress (failed personal relationship effect the patient adversely is an irrefutable truth) and exposure to extreme heat or cold also may trigger the initial or subsequent severe attacks of Migraine. Alteration in the life style or elimination of the cause may bring improvement. In such cases patient should zero in on the special relaxation technique such as Yoga and Hypnosis.

A slight change in eating habits will vamp up the condition of the patient. Certain food stuffs like chocolate, citrus fruits, fatty foods (esp. Pork), alcohol, tea, coffee, cheese and other dairy products should be pared down. Missing out a meal on regular basis may bring on an attack. So its good not to alter meal with snacks as a stitch in time saves nine.

The patient of cervical spondylosis should keep a vigil as it is responsible for making migraine worse, which could be treated my immobilizing the neck in a collar. Migraine may occur primarily on Saturday or Sunday morning, staying in bed longer. This is so called letup headache and hence waking routine should not be altered. Person should be careful during hot and dry weather as it may effect adversely, patient should also avoid stuffy airless atmosphere such as in Pubs or Theaters especially when it is polluted by cigarette smoke. It’s also suggested to avoid imminent excessive bright light. During attack its worth while taking a pain killer such as Paracetamol or soluble aspirin and should relax in bed inside a dark ventilated room and should try to sleep again. The lowest pillow should be kept under the shoulders so that head, neck and upper trunk remain in straight line.

If one feels running against visual upset, numbness, vertigo etc. during work then the vasoactive drugs such as Migril, Cafergot or Lingraine should be taken before headache comes. If the person see about in early attacks, there is poor absorption of food and drug and X-Ray confirms that the movement of stomach walls ceases it’s essential not to make light of this warning and treatment should be started as soon as possible. Anti vomiting drug like Metaclopramide could be a good option in this high and dry situation.

Yet taking such precautions all the time is a Herculean task but one who wants to live on velvet, must abide by the precaution measures because one just can’t yield under pressure rather has to knock out for better treatment, then why not to play safe?

If you have never been unwell in the last 15 years this article might not be very useful for you. In case you find a little better state of health can help you live more of your life every day – try one or more of the options below:

Eat Less
We often eat much more than we need to. Someone recently told me that the physical size of our stomach is not much bigger than the space that we can create between our palms (when bloated in a Namaste shape). Eating a bigger volume than that is just overloading the system and giving it more stuff than it needs to live healthy. This brings in the overhead of processing a lot of food that the body does not need – wasted energy which could have been used in playing a game we love or putting in that additional hour into work that was needed to meet  that deadline! I suppose when one starts over eating the body thinks that you are headed into a famine and starts storing food. But when the food is stored for years and no famine happens then it begins to rot like wheat which has lived too long in storage without being used! The stored food starts floating around in the blood looking for a consumer and since there are no takers for it, starts choking from arteries to organs!
Ignore the gore above and take the crux of the message – eat as much as you will burn today!

Sleep Less
Popular myth says sleep eight hours for a healthy life. If you sleep for eight or more hours everyday – try this simple test. Observe how fresh you feel ten minutes after six hours of ‘good’ sleep and compare it to the moment ten minutes after the eight hour sleep. Most people have found that after the eight hour sleep the body actually needs to ‘recuperate’ from the sleeping – some parts of the body like neck and back feel a little stiffer after the marathon and a general feel of fatigue and laziness lingers for a while before you are ready for action again. In comparison the moment ten minutes after the six hour sleep is often ready for action already! The more important thing here is the quality of sleep. When you keep yourself ‘mildly’ under-slept on occasions (maybe once or twice a week) the quality of sleep that you get everyday keeps improving. Most of the very successful people were awake for eighteen to twenty hours a day and doing things that they really wanted to do (instead of sleeping in preparation for doing them the next day!)

Do More
Find all the things that you really want to do and do them a lot. After all good health’s only use is giving you the opportunity to do more of what you really want to do! One of the things that helps one do more is to not play the ‘OR’ game too early in the decision making cycle. Instead of saying that if I do this then I will be able to do lesser of that try to see if you can do lot of this ‘AND’ a lot of that. An example in this could be the Work/Play balance. Don’t get into OR too early there – work hard and party harder!

Smile More
Very essential daily activity that we keep forgetting to perform at the right frequency – Smiling. Look at the days when you really stretched yourself to meet a target and managed to smile through it – days like those were probably a greater joy than the best vacation (especially if you spent the vacation worrying about a problem that you were not even solving at that moment!) Here again one can achieve two levels – level one is where you are able to smile through the ups and downs of life – level two is when you can make the others smile!

We know that, “drug for Asthma are not perfect” perhaps, no drugs are. Yet the patient of Asthma desire to live a normal and active life. Asthma is a fatal disease and living with it is rather stiff, but patient under treatment and self effort can come down and this satanic disease can be brought under.

Asthma is an allergy prone disease so; asthmatics should come at the value of their sleeping and eating habits. They should do without milk, yeast, eggs, fish and citrus fruits. Patient can’t bear with canned food as it contains benzoic acid and sulphur dioxide (preservatives), orange squash or any other orange drink should also be avoided because it comprises tartrazine (an edible yellow dye) which can run out the situation too.

Asthma is a disease of urbanization so; second handed smoke such as barbeque flames in restaurant, pubs and parties should be avoided. Patient must use mask while traveling via an open vehicle. Perfumes and deodorants especially in the aerosol container, projects a fuzz of perfume into the air also causes allergy.

Dust mites (a microscopic creature) , is the most troublesome allergen which makes this bleak disease worst. These mites are most abundantly found in bedroom, bathroom and also love to live in the heave of cloths, cottons, feathers and hair. Asthmatics should try to keep their selves away from these mites. Washing the bed sheet and cleaning the house will not get you rid from this diabolic creature (for asthmatics). Vacuum cleaners are very much efficient of disposing the mites off. If we excuse the texture, nylon bed sheet and pillow stuffed with synthetic fibre would be a better choice. Mattresses should be covered by plastic covers. A pillow with polystyrene granules must be there in the bedroom of the patient as it takes the shapes of the body and help the patient to relax while panting, puffing or asthmatic wheezing.

Above all, the most inevitable thing is to pay more heed upon the breathing habits. When the patient is feeling more anxious, breathing slowly and deeply can help. To avoid asthmatic wheezing every time, asthmatics can help their selves by an autogenic relaxation method, which involves a very slow repetition of calming phrases – “My arms are heavy and warm and my breathing is steady and slow”, for this, one can take help of the experts.

Muscular exercise could be very much beneficial for the asthmatics among which swimming is the best. An inhalation of bronchodilator drug (Sodium cromoglycate) is also very helpful before muscular exercise. The best way to cope up with the stressful situation is to take your mind away from what is worrying you.

You might be thinking , “its easier say than done”, but, Asthma is a fatal disease and it’s better to fight and live a normal life instead of leaving yourself in the lap of this Satan.

I heard several people bragging about the blue print they inherit helped them in becoming bards of power and how they liked to be enunciated as the great chip of the great block.

“What we accede to from our parents at parturition is a prototype which set us to a pre program course of instigation”, owing to this fact, we rather compare off springs to the parents though we all know every individual is unique.

The peculiar game of Gene is not only constricted to bringing our beauty and blight to the progeny but it is much more beyond anyone’s potential or imagination. Perhaps, the most powerful matter known ever.

Jurassic Park – a mega hit movie of Steven Spielberg was based on recreation possibilities of pre historic animals. In which the indispensable DNA of dinosaur was extracted from the amber of blood sucking creature, even in the movie “Sleeper”, Woody Allen had perfectly caricaturized Allan Wilson’s Endeavour experiment done over Quagga (Zebra like animal). In the movie a dead tyrant was cloned by his nose (the only part of his body remained).

Darwin Prockop (Molecular geneticist, Jefferson Medical College) had proposed to clone Abraham Lincoln from his blood stained shirt (preserved as national relic cell) and a hair strand with a follicle attached in it.

Although scientific reality is more thorny because a well preserved fossil probably contains rest than 9% of original DNA but, Gene therapy and Gene profiling can pull you through many disease and many problems with a great altitude of success, startlingly.

The Gene has a power to cast a spell; there will be no wonder if we see Albert Einstein in future.

We all are aware of the fact that working on computer for prolonged hours can be really dangerous and can lead to a major dysfunction. Desktop yoga is what you can resort to in order to stay active at work and increase your productivity eventually. Here are some easy to do exercises that help prevent repetitive stress injuries:

  • Ensure to take a walk after every thirty minutes.
  • Gaze at anything kept far away for few seconds at preset intervals may be an hour.
  • Avoid having lunch at your desk and perform some physical activity during lunch time. A brisk walk for few minutes can do the wonders
  • Stretch all the parts of your body, including fingers and wrists if you can’t afford taking a break every thirty minutes.
  • Monitor screen should preferably be kept lower than your eye level.
  • Clench your fists and rotate both hands clockwise and anti-clockwise.
  • Rotating your shoulders in backward and forward relaxes head, neck, shoulders and arms.
  • Sit upright without putting any pressure on you neck or back.
  • Shrug your shoulders to release your neck at least five times in a go.
  • Join your palms at the front part of your body (as you do during prayers) and make zero in the air in both directions. Repeat it for three times.
  • Whenever possible close your eyes and take three deep breaths. This is the easiest stress buster.
  • Prefer lemon tea to the normal tea or coffee especially at workplace. (Folks it also helps in shedding those extra kilos)
  • Drink as much water as is possible for you. It cleanses your body of the waste.

I know it is really difficult to take out time from our rock bottom busy schedules. But all I would say is that we should respect the needs of our body and desktop yoga is what you should be focusing on to fulfill the same.
