Yes, we can but typically, we are conditioned by the society to do the opposite.

Speaking for myself, I've grown up devouring the works of Vivekananda and I think tried to practice some of it, especially the part about giving.

Let me share another one that is my favorite from Vivekananda. He says that when you are given an opportunity to serve, the attitude should be to feel humbled that God, out of millions of other better choices, chose you to do His work and serve. That awareness will make you feel what you do is God's work and put in all your unconditional love, support and effort to make it nearly perfect.

All my life, this concept has guided me and given me considerable happiness in doing what I believe is God's Work. Vivekananda's teachings have inspired and influenced me tremendously. Your post reminded me of it, thank you for writing about him.</description>
